In this newsletter: PBS series "The Vote," Give BIG to Local League VOTE 411.org Forum Committee Call for Candidates Questions Primary Forums Schedule From member Kim Drury, Langley: I highly recommend the two part PBS series "The Vote," a history of the suffrage fight. It's the history we were never taught, never had a chance to learn. And it doesn't gloss over the movement's racist choices. From the film: "The right to vote has always been about power - and who has it and who doesn't want to give it up. And we're still fighting about who has that power." If you haven't already, I'd suggest that the series be promoted to the LWV membership. https://www.pbssocal.org/programs/american-experience/trailer-vote-american-experience/ Thank you, Kim! Give BIG to your Local League: The LWVWI board is asking all of our members to consider making a special donation to our league this spring. Since we canceled our dinner with the mayors, we have no other fundraiser to balance this year’s budget. You can donate online through PayPal on our website or mail a check to PO Box 1933, Oak Harbor WA 98277. Thank you for your generosity. VOTE 411.org: The board is working hard to contact all candidates to use this website to provide their leadership vision and priorities. Please join us in that effort. This election will be challenging to candidates as they try to spread their message during social distancing. VOTE 411.org is more important now than ever. Forum Committee: The Forum Committee is continuing its work. Contact Carla Grau-Egerton through League email if you have questions. Primary Candidates Forums: We are hosting candidate forums for the primaries. These will be virtual with a Zoom Webinar format. The Zoom link will be posted to our website homepage 2 hours before the event begins. Our license will accommodate 500 attendees. Monday, July 20 7:00-8:30 pm: County Commissioner candidates for Districts 1 and 2 Tuesday, July 21 7:00-8:30 pm: Legislative District 10 State Representatives Positions 1 and 2 Wednesday, July 22 7:00-8:30 pm: Congressional District 2 US Representative These events are co-sponsored by the League and Sno-Isle Libraries If you would like to submit a question for any of these forums, please send that in soon. Our Forum Committee is working to develop questions for the candidates. We want your ideas. We encourage you to attend board meetings! Our board meetings are open to all members and would be a good opportunity for you to share your thoughts and support the work of the League. You are welcome to receive the board meeting agendas.
